Unwatched (unwatched.app) is a web application that generates AI-powered summaries of YouTube videos. It is operated by an individual and offered as a paid subscription service. You can reach us via our .
When you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google's OAuth service. We use your email address to authenticate you, manage your account, and occasionally write to you about it (see below).
When you submit a YouTube video or playlist URL, we fetch the video's publicly available transcript via the YouTube transcript API. If you connect your YouTube account, we may also access your YouTube playlists to enable features such as liking videos or reordering playlist items. If you have a playlist named "Unwatched", we automatically read the list of videos in it, generate their summaries, and show them in your Inbox; this happens only while you keep using Unwatched (signing in counts), and you can stop it at any time by renaming or deleting that playlist or by disconnecting your YouTube account.
We store a record of each video you have summarised, including the video ID, title, channel, duration, the AI model used, token counts, and estimated cost. This data is used to display your activity history and to manage service costs.
To enforce monthly quotas, we keep a record of which summaries each account has read and when. For visitors who are not signed in, this record is keyed by a one-way hash of the IP address, not the address itself. Records older than the cache retention period are deleted, except those from the current month.
When you open a public playlist page (/p/…), we store the playlist and its video list, the time of the last visit, and the same one-way hash of your IP address (to limit how many new playlists one address can add per day). Which videos you have read on those pages is kept only in your browser's local storage.
We set a single cookie, which keeps you signed in. Your browser's local storage holds your interface preferences (such as the theme and the inbox view) and which videos you have read on playlist pages; it is not sent to us. We count page visits with GoatCounter, running on our own server: it uses no cookies or local storage and does not follow you across other websites. Since we only store on your device what the service needs to work, we do not ask for cookie consent.
Payment and billing information is handled exclusively by Lemon Squeezy, our payment processor. We do not store your payment card details. We may receive billing-related data such as your subscription status and transaction history from Lemon Squeezy.
We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond operating the service for you.

Transcripts and summaries are transmitted to AI providers solely to generate the requested summary. They are not used by the operator for any other purpose.
Data obtained through Google APIs (including Google OAuth and the YouTube Data API) is subject to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We disclose Google user data only as described below:
We do not sell, rent, or share Google user data with any other parties, nor do we use it for advertising or profiling.
Cached transcripts and summaries are automatically deleted after a retention period (currently 30 days). Activity records associated with deleted summaries are also removed. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us, or delete your account yourself from your profile page.
Accounts that have not been used for 12 months are deleted automatically, together with all their data. We email you 30 days before; signing in before that date keeps your account. Accounts with an active subscription are not deleted.
OAuth credentials are encrypted at rest using symmetric encryption before storage. Session tokens are stored in encrypted, signed cookies. We apply reasonable technical measures to protect your data, but no system is completely secure.
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data, as well as the right to restrict or object to its processing.
